I am asuming that the cd drive still working but the burner is not?

All you need to do is re-download the drivers to the cd drive. You could go to dell and find the drivers or just google the drive you need. it very simple, good luck

I will bet you a lost driver that the Dell support line, or the forums, might know, and in a 'jiffy' tell you!

But, Yahoodiots only know hammer, and everything looks like a nail to us!

Did you try the big rubber hammer?

CDrom tester: http://pclinuxos.com runs LiveCDrom, tests everything. then, open the console, type DMESG for the logs.
