I know you aren't trying to ask a politically charged question, but in my community, the juries are made up of white, middle class Republicans.

These juries tend to be tough on crime.

As a criminal defense attorney, I would like to see more liberals on my juries, since they don't feel that burglary is a big deal.

I've always thought jury duty was pretty interesting myself, but maybe I'm strange, lol. Plus, I personally like the change from being at work for that day(s). I also try to volunteer for things as much as I can - I've worked in the food bank here, and been a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. I've been in contact with people about being one of the people who hands out ballots, etc. at the next election. I think some people simply believe things like that to be a hassle. And jury duty can pay less than your job, which can cause financial hardship to some people, especially if they get selected for something that goes on and on. Doesn't mean people shouldn't do it, but if you have are using all of your resources simply to live, as many people are, it can be hard.

What I can't stand are the people who refuse to vote. These same people would be b*tching if they no longer had the right to do so, but they take it for granted.

I'm still waiting for that call or letter to serve on a jury. I haven't gotten one yet, but I plan on doing my civic duty when I finally do get called.

I don't know about where you live but in my state the pool of jurors is selected from the list of registered voters and most registered voters have jobs that 10 times what they would get for serving on a jury or better.

I wish all civic minded people will come together on the single most important issue facing our Country in that is to Impeach G.W. Bush.
Because it is G.W. Bush who has taken away (illegally) our constitutional rights with the patriot act.

Good point.
There are so many hypocrites.
Cheney gave more money to Katrina Victims than all the Rich Democrat Congressmen put together.
Democrats "talk the talk".
Cheney "walks the walk".
A recent study showed that the people who gave the least to charity, were the rich liberals.
No surprise, there.

It's one thing to" voice" support, and another to actually participate....It's a sort of "guilt release" mechanism.... normally utilized by the weak and cowardly...

Good question. I suppose that it's just to inconvenient for a lot of them. You know, you can't bring your cell phone and stuff like that.
