Everything starts with us, if we cared as much about ourselves as we did about others would we really need others approvals and attention and love as much ?

Catherine, All beings need love, not just humans, I think the giving of love is more important then the pursuit of love. Giving of yourself without the thought of receiving, will bring the rewards we all seek.

You make a good point I think that we wouldn't need as much of others approvals and attention if we loved ourselves more.

Hi ,

Till some extent we can agree with what you have written but if we see in long term this might be correct. if we continue to love ourself then it will be like being selfish which is not a good thing. Ofcourse 1 must oneself but to an extent only. One must do things which pleases him BUT His love for his ownself should not hurt othrs and above all it should not hust him.
For everythin we do not need approval and attention of others but there are somethings which c an not be decided just keeping your ownself in the picture or focus. man is a social animal and hehas to live in the society so to b a part of society he will have to think about othrs also.

I don't think so. You must love yourself and think highly of yourself in order to love others. If we had more confidence and love for ourselves, we would have no insecurities and we wouldn't need the love , attention and approval from other human beings.

It all starts in childhood. So you should look at how you were raised. Personally I don't buy into the perception that it's due to lack of self love. Well not for everyone. Human beings have issues ranging from insecurity about their looks to.....you name it!
Some folks look to others to fill a void they have and some do it for recognition. Others do it because they feel they can or should be able to trust in the love rom whom they seek it. So many different variables, its not just because one is lacking in self love...no way.

I'm vastly studied in the Bible, many other books and have a Diploma in psychology so I actually know the answer to that.- People want, and need others for emotional and psychological reasons; it's simply not good for us to be alone. That's why our very being/centre crys out to just be hugged. And I'm a dude, but I can't deny the feelings we have. I fullfil that need in my wife and she purrs like a kitten.- she's happy, I'm happy, sure the world is cool.

I really wish more people thought like you do. The only thing I have to add is that if we cared more about who we were and what we did, then there would be less superficial judging too, like who is wearing the latest. Think back to school, if you didn't wear the clothes people thought were the current, you weren't accepted as easily.

I do love myself. I have a self-love session most nights in front of my pc...

And the great thing is I don't need anyone else's approval, love or attention to satisfy my craven desires...

I thank you.

We all wana love and be loved, too. Its always comforting to hear it from others, instead of ourselves all the way thru.

the truth is people love themselves too much as it is. We are turning into a "me" society when it's all about us and our problems. People need to start thinking of others and not be so self centered
