Can the current U.S. government handle the threat of an Iranian government that has denied the holocaust and has repeatedly stated its wish to dominate the region and destroy Israel? a likely scenario next year would have Israel protecting their national security with a pre-emtive strike to take out Irans nuke sites or...a nuclear barrage unleased by Israel. I believe the Iranian government can not be trusted and must be eliminated for the good of all they are clearly into denying basic human rights to many nations in the region , I would be lovely if NO one had nukes...clearly preventing nuclear proliferation is a top prioritie for our government be it Democrat or other. I have great empathy for the people of the middle east....such misery, I feel fortunate to live here in the U.S. and feel all nations should have basic human rights that religious radicals and criminal thugs such as the Madhi Muqtadi Al -Sadr deny their citizens, so sad that Iraquis have not known peace.

Well, I feel that the best strategy for the U.S. when it comes to Iraq and Iran is to get out of the region, ween ourselves off of oil - the faster the better. Invest in serious research & development and become the world's provider of energy. There is serious potential in this field.

Our mere presence in the region is creating havoc. Eventually the dwindling oil reserves will become tapped out. And the middle-east will be a hollow husk of itself, lost in self-destructing sectrian violence.

As for the nuclear threat - I doubt Iran would be capable of launching a long-distance strike against the U.S. in addition the U.S. has quite capable and rapidly improving defense systems against air-born missles. In additon a nuclear attack on the U.S. will trigger a retaliation of unparalleled proportions, I doubt Al -Sadr (who is a paper tiger and wields very little power in Iran), Ayatollah Ali Khamenei the supreme leader and the Iranian religious leadership would be so crazy to even think about attacking the U.S. or even Isreal and risk total annihilation. Iran wants some respect in the world community, they also want nukes so they can command deterent power, mainly to deter Isreal, Pakistan, and India. Iran also has a serious power deficit, where nuclear power would help in extreme power shortages. Petroleum can only go so far.

Of course these measures mean we basically abondon Isreal, this however might also cause ramifications, like for instance the pull-out of jewish investment capital from the U.S. But this would spell peace for the U.S. and no more U.S. troops in the region.

Good point about Israel and a pre-emptive strike. I beleive, once they confirmed the existence of nukes in Iran, that they would act quickly and destry them, if the US does nothing. I also feel that it could be a big joke, giving the US a reason to invade, such as the so called WMDs. Now, more children become fatherless.

I think the Bush is being very hypocritical. We have bombs. We used them to kill people. If they are researching nuclear energy, we should be helping them. Iran is a very powerful country, we need to accept this fact and move forward, not making unfounded accusations.
