I had a bunch of outdoor Christmas lights on for about a week or two consecutively, shutting them off in the morning. All of a sudden, they shut off and the outlets that were all on that circuit do not work now. Do you think this was just an overload of the circuit breaker and I need to replace it or is there something else I need to look at?

To be more specific, they are all small bulb lights that I am using. The problem is not the fuses with the lights, the problem is that none of the outlets on the circuit that I have my lights plugged into will work now. I tested it with other items in the outlets and they still do not work.

Water is a very likely culprit. There are several things you should check.

1. If you have GFC outlets in the house (they have the red and black buttons for tripping and resetting an internal breaker) - check those. One of them may have tripped.

2. Go to the central circuit-breaker box and see if anything has tripped there.

3. In the plug to the lights themselves will be one or two small fuses - about 1/4 inch long. You can generally slide a little cover off the plug and they're inside. Most lights come with a couple spare fuses in the same bag that the spare bulbs and the blinker-bulbs come in. A blown fuse will be a bit "smoky" or blackened inside. Just pop it out with a small knife and replace it.

Moisture may have been created from the heat of the lights interacting with the temperature change outside from night to day, causing the breaker to trip. Or a critter may have chewed through a wire causing an arc to generate to which would also trip the breaker.

Check the lights out then Reset the breaker and see if it quickly trips again if so then there is a problem with something that is still plugged into an outlet on that circuit.

you didn't say if they were the large bulb sets or the minis
the number of sets is also a factor, the mini sets usually have small fuses in the plugs so if you have too many strings in a run , you may have popped one of these fuses. check house panel breakers to see if tripped, remember to turn off than back on or they won't cycle , and if using a ground fault system to plug into , it is sensitive to moisture , good luck
