I don't quite remember, because I read the book over 20 years ago, but I'm going to say it is uderstanding of worldviews ?

This would make sense, because how can you be sure of your own beliefs if you don't know in-depth the beliefs of others.

I have also read many of his other books which include, "Time, Space, Continuim", and "The Religious Experience of Mankind", both were excellent.
