Greater wavelength so greater visibility. But why this visibility in days ? The test match is played in day only so why we need greater visibility ? Everything is quite visible in day in sunlight !
Why white ball in one day matches ? Color of light is white and so how can you see white ball in white color lights ?
Red and white are just colors like other colors then why we say that red color gets dirty in longer period ?
Any color can be dirty in equal time !
So this is just a RULE so they chose red and white color.

well..the real reason why test cricket is played using red balls is bcoz the wide screen that is used behind the bowlers end is of white color n the players also wear white sports gear while playing test cricket and it makes it easy for the batsman to see the ball clearly wen the ball is delievered from the bowlers's arm..and apart from that herez some additional piece of information even one day cricket was played using red ball until a business icon called KERRY PACKER the owner of CHANNEL 9 BROADCASTING COMPANY brought one of the biggest n influnential change to the game....HE IS THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR INTRODUCING DAY NITE CRICKET...COLORED CLOTHING N WHITE BALL.......HE HELD A TOURNAMENT CALLED THE WORLD SERIES IN AUSTRIALIA....where players instead of playing for their respective countries pulled of the squard n signed contract to play in This tournament.which revolutionized the game of cricket....n even there the game was played using the red ball but since he was not able to attract large number of people to the stadiums he introduced day nite cricket with color clothing n bcoz the game was played under lights a white ball was used as itz visibility is much clearer in nite

Red color has got the longest wavelength amongst all the colors and is the easiest to spot for the human eyes. That is also the reason why we have red as the color for danger signals so that no one misses it...also we have the break light color at the rear of all the vehicles so that the motorists behind the breaking vehicle doesnt miss it.

No particular reason.. It has been a tradition which is being followed till date... we cant' ask why there are three stumps, just like that, may be they would have chosen the red colour because red symbolizes aggression and may be used to intimidate the batsmen..

However the redball has a poor visibility and hence we have shifted to white balls for day and night one day games...

A white ball gets the green color fast which will be difficult for the batsman to spot. So Playing for 5 days, it requires 15 balls...

So always a redball is used as it is easy to spot on.. also it wears out slowly as compared to white one..

Red color is easier to see and that means that it makes the game better to play.

It's not always red, it's white as well. There is no specific reason why it's red, it's red, just like a tennis ball is green.
