Thanks for your help. I'm off to a black tie party next week and have my evening suit, I saved up to get one tailor-made so it looks really nice, I've never had a bespoke suit before so I'm quite proud of it.
Question is, do I just wear suit with shirt, bow tie and cummerbund or do I swap the cummerbund for a black waistcoat?
Are the two styles meant for two different occassions- what do you think?
Thanks!

Hi firstly are you taking some one with you? if you are then your bow tie, Cummerbund or waist coat should match the colour that she is wearing, so if she is waring a baby blue evening gown then your accessories should also be baby blue in colour. Have you tried the cummerbund yet? you may find it uncomfortable and if you do wear one just remember to put it on after you've put your shoes on!
for god sakes don't wear a white jacket and tie as that is reserved for hte host of the party.
have a great time!
Oh a tuxedo is an American term for a dinner suit or dress suit.

I wouldn't do the waistcoat or cummerbund, the waistcoat will look a bit tacky at a black tie do, the cummerbund will be a bit over the top unless its a really posh do, just go for the bow tie and the one you tie yourself if possible, bet you'll look lovely, have a wonderful time and enjoy yourself.

If you are European- and I assume you are, judging by your spelling and grammar- then a nice cummerbund will, I think, set off this ensemble splendidly.
A waistcoat would be considered rather stuffy and old fashioned, unless for a wedding.
If however you are an american gentlemen, then it hardly matters. Probably some sort of camouflaged ammunition belt would be most appropriate. And you could complete the outfit with a baseball cap , not forgetting to perch a pair of sunglasses ON TOP of the baseball cap, which is I believe the current fashion.
Glad to help!!!

As far as I'm aware there's no reason to chose one over the other. I'd treat cummerbund as optional - just suit, dress shirt + bow tie is fine. Have a great time.
I'd agree with Caroline, by the way, I'm not a fan of cummerbunds.

If it is formal, as the "black tie" would seem to suggest, then a cummerbund should be worn. Otherwise a nice colourful waistcoat to show a bit of individuality

I wouldn't do the waistcoat or cummerbund (I think cummerbunds make men look a little 'portly'). If you have to wear one or the other go for the waistcoat and take it off if you get hot. Have a brilliant time!

You should wear what you feel best in.
You have what you need, I'm sure you will look dashing.
Have a great time and be safe.
here are 2 links for you they both say either the waistcoat or cummerbund is fine, so it sounds like a personal choice.

It is very acceptable, even preferred, to wear a white dinner jacket in place of the black tuxedo jacket in extreme heat. The rest of the formal attire remains the same ie the cumber bun, black pants with the stripe, white shirt bow tie, etc. The tuxedo material can be a very light weight wool silk. It is very important that all the males in the wedding party dress the same.
