Well, this comes from way back, when whites thought that blacks were less than them because they could buy and sell a human being because they were slaves. A lot of people still have that idea stucked in their heads, and those people will never change their mind. There is nothing wrong with being black or brown. Is other people that make it seem that it is. Unfortunalty this will never change. As for me it doesn't bother me what people think of me because I know and I am secure of who I am.
I am a Puerto Rican with a dark complexion, I can hear Puerto Ricans talking about me, saying, she has nice features for a Black woman or her hair is pretty. And on the other side I hear Blacks saying she must be Indian or something because of her hair. So you see I get it from both ends and sometimes is not all good, but most of the times it is. People talking about me doesn't bother me. Some whites pass by me and they have a cute child they child says hello to me, I answer back, and one day this lady told her child not to talk to me because I was Black. This is how children learn from 2, 3, & 4years old, that Black people are bad, they are thought by their parents, I am not saying all people do this but some do. So you see people don't understand, that because you are dark complexioned you don't have to be from Black decent, they are other cultures that look black too.I believe all races need to be respected no mattter what. When I say I am Spanish they accept me more. That is why most of the time I don't say anything, because you will either like me for me, or just don't like me all. I have grown to know, that unless people pay my lights, my phones, or any of my bills, they dont have to know me or like me. I am very happy the way that I am.
This was a good questions, I hope you get all the responses you want.

I truly believe that the world will give you as much respect as you command. By educating yourself, always conducting yourself honestly and displaying a high moral compass the people who matter will give you much respect.
I will give you an example: I have a good friend who is a black woman, she has an education and holds an important job, she NEVER makes her race an issue. She upholds a strong ethical value system, and is fair to people. Every one I know, black, white, or otherwise respects and admires her. And I live in the South!
I think there is NOTHING wrong with any race or color, it is all about the choices that you make. And if people do show you a lack of respect, that is their shortcoming, not yours.

There is nothing wrong. I think that if someone is not respected as much as they want, it shouldnt be because of their race or skin color, it should be because of thei behaviour. I dont think anyone would respect a white blue eyed handsome boy if he acts like a crazy person all the time. My skin is light brown and I am respected. It is more about the attitude, I think.

A small anecdote...

***
There was a man who made his living selling balloons at a fair. He had balloons of many different colors.Whenever business was slow, he would release a helium-filled baloon into air. When the children saw the balloon go up, they all wanted one. They would come up to him, buy a baloon and and his sale would go up.

One day, the baloon man felt someone tugging his jacket. He turned around and a little boy asked "If you release a black baloon, would that also fly?" Moved by the boy's concern, the man replied gently " Son, It is not the color of the balloon, it is what inside that makes it go up."
***

It is said "Attitude determines altitude". So if someone feels inferior what others can do. Never shortened your size.

Happy living!!

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ANY RACE. BECAUSE WE ARE UNIQUE IN OUR OWN LITTLE WAY.. IF ALL WAS THE SAME WOULDN'T IT BE A BORING LIFE?
NO WHITE DON'T GET BETTER RESPECT THAT BLACK OR ANY OTHER RACE.BECAUSE THE SIMPLE FACT THAT YOU HAVE NO COLOR WHEN IT COME TO BEING A TRUE HUMAN BEING. WE IN SOCIETY FEEL THIS WAY.....ITS WHATS IN OUR HEART THAT MAKE US THIS PERSON. AND IF WE WASN'T SO ILLITERATE TO WHATS REALLY GOING WE COULD SEE THIS.........LIFE IS WHAT WE MAKE IT CUT OUT TO BE... RIGHT?

In the USA, it is because of ignorance and stupidity. There is nothing wrong with being a person of color. God made all of the people on the planet, and He decided what color they would be. God doesn't make mistakes, people do. Sometimes people are afraid of anything different than what they know. And, I think a lot of white people, especially where I live (southeastern USA), are just afraid of black people because they are different in appearance. I hope that one day, one of my hero's (Martin Luther King, Jr.)dream will be realized. Then we can all live together in peace and harmony. Peace.

Nothing wrong in being black or brown. In this society, some people behave like that, It shows their worst character. There is no difference , Everyone are equal.

I am white and I can tell you I don't know. Blacks that are nice are given the same respect by my family as whites who are nice. Actually, you are to be commended, you are the ancestors of a proud people who were uprooted from their African homes, they endured and you are the children of them. Stronger and better genes, If you deserve respect you should have it. If you don't then ignore the stupid idiots who snub you They are the ones at loss not you

Nothing wrong with it. Now it depends on where you live wether or not your treated with respect. For instance if you live on the east coast above Maryland, your treated with more respect, if you live on the west coast above California, your treated with more respect. The midwest is trailor park, hickville and the south is the toilet of our nation.
