I have no clue considering dark does not exist. It is really a lack of light. The same principle works with cold. Cold does not exist. It is just lack of heat. It's probably more convenient or just sounds more aesthetically pleasing to say 'after dark'.

OK After light ...No that won't work...after the light has come again yea, yea I'm on a roll here, after the light has come again the dark will come later and then after dark we can,,, uh oh I'm back where I started
