I don't know if there is a purpose for hot flashes, but more of a side effect of low hormones. Well it is a natural thing women go through, but like you say "if it's natural why stop it?" Well you have to weigh out the issues, you can either tolerate the hot flashes and lose bone mass and possibly have a dry vagina. (Which I've heard can rip if it gets to dry< so make sure you use a lubricant.) Or you can take hormones and slow the effects of bone loss and have moisture where needed and take on the chance of getting cancer (breast, ovarian, ect). It's all in personal preference. I quit taking my hormones over a year ago. (On them due to having a hysterectomy 10 years ago from cancer). The hotflashes have decreased alot, but I worry about my bone mass and what will I be like in 30 years. I'm only 38. Because Menopause is normally for women in their 50's to 60's. So at that age I don't think they have a real concern over these issues. Hope this helped.

Because they are a pain! Are you having night sweats? Do you start dripping sweat when you're just sitting still? Does your makeup slide off your face 2 minutes after you put it on? I have all these things and tolerating does not work. If it does for you then you're very lucky.

However, if you're in menopause there are many things going on in your body that you need to understand. I would strongly suggest you read two books; "The Sexy Years" by Suzanne Somers and "The Wisdom of Menopause" by Christiane Northrup.

I'm with you. If the hot flashes don't interfere with you life, roll with them. I notice mine come on when I'm stressed or have been eating a lot of processed foods. I understand oriental women don't have hot flashes. I think the American diet may be responsible.
