I believe that although the definitions for "meaning of life" may seemingly vary, everybody has the same inborn yearning for peace brought by unity, undivided mind. People are striving to be whole. The same yearning has given rise to all the philosophies, religions, practices. It is the same thing that pushes us to new accomplishments, new purchases, new relationships. And even to overeating or substance misuse. Even murder. People are trying to fill a void inside, the only thing that is different is their methods for hoping to achieve such state, and how conscious they are of their true goal. But we are on the same road and who can say who arrives first, who second and who, the last? Who is nearer to the ultimate goal - the Buddhist practitioner reciting mantras all day long or the old homeless guy you see every day on your street - the one with the clear blue eyes and a smile like a baby? I guess we'll have to wait and see, and in the meanwhile, continue on our own path, as well as we can.

Hey !
No, i do not think the meaning of life has to be the same for everybody but some common values will make this earthly life easier for all.
One com men ground I personally like to see be more cherished around the world is love for this life we got here and now.

That is a great question ...... not as simple as it may seem at first go.
It makes sense to believe that if life was brought about on this earth by the great grand design of God.... then He must have had different purposes in mind to create so many different lives..... if there were to be a single big purpose, He would have obviously created one appropriate life for it.
However, if one believes in evolution as the origin of life, there is of course one main purpose of perpetuation and survival....... incidentally those two are just the two sides of the same coin.
I believe that the purpose of life neither belongs to God nor to the Nature..... it very much belongs to the 'Self' that owns the life....... hence there would be as many distinct purposes as there are distinct Self's owning distinct lives!!!

in terms of approach and the way we go about life, no because we all live our lives, in accordance to how the events unfold in front of us. every one has a different interpretation on the meaning of life- and yet for the majority of us that interpretation is often based on the experiences we encounter as human beings. likewise, the people we meet and come across, work, family and how we perceive and view society in an individual and humanistic way. for me the meaning of life, is one where the human being encounters numerous paths along the way. we learn things as we go along, making mistakes and addressing those mistakes and to move on with our lives. that's one take on life- but of course, each person's take on life is as unique and different as the other. its never the same, or to be exact, its rarely the same. how we define life is purely individualistic and is often based on what our own life experiences, beliefs and influences are

No, that largely depends on people's experiences in life. Also, it takes people different times to figure out what the meaning of life is, usually due to the experiences.

Absolutely not! And to further your question, your "meaning of life" will change as you go through your own life. Life is wondrous an never the same each day, read, explore, travel and see how the meaning will change for you. Merry Christmas.

No....I think the meaning of life can be different from person to person. in my opinion the meaning of life has a lot to do with the person's views, opinions, traditions, morals, outlook, the way they think, feel and so on. I always tell people that "Life is what you make of it"

Well, yes & no. The basic meaning of life is to survive but we all have different means of survival. We all have different priorities & goals. But basically we all want the same things: to exist, to love and be loved, to have a meaningful life.

I think the meaning of life is to feel good or empowered in every moment. I think all our actions are for that, even though every single person has his/her own unique way of going about it.
