how serious is identity theft???

i have been releasing and posting my resume online, on websites (that either offer or recommend jobs) over the couple of months. then i suddenly realized how grave identity theft on the internet is.

now, i am a little bit scared since i already posted some basic information like my name, address, etc (although not credit cards and bank accounts).

how would you know that the website is safe?

i know that they may say things about privacy policies, but who knows what they do with it?

except for yahoo and gmail, i think there are only a couple more sites that have good privacy policies.

There are some very good tips about general identity theft at www.ftc.gov. They have a specific section on ID theft. It's a very good resource.

Very serious...however, posting resumes online with infirmation such as names and addresses is relatively safer than credit card theft....
Always post your resumes with reputed names to be on the safer side..they take their privacy policies seriously.
