Aisha Tyler is alive and well. I believe your wife heard that her character died in the hit show, Ghost Whisperer, and mistaken it for the actress herself.
In the show, Aisha Tyler died in a car/airplane accident. An airplane lost pressure during flight and as a result, everyone died on that plane, including the captain. The plane was supposed to be the plane that Aisha's brother was on and she was driving to his estate when the plane crashed onto her.
Great season finale, you and your wife should watch it =).
