how many died (especially children) because of irresponsible gun owners? Should this number be posted too?

Actually the number of violent crimes stopped by the private ownership and use of guns far exceeds the amount of people harmed by guns per year. One of the answerer's above me gave you the web listing. Fact is every state with carry concealed laws has had a drop in violent crime. The places like NYC and Washington DC have the most restrictive gun laws in the world and also the highest violent crime rate. Most people that hate gun ownership have not been around them and only hear what the press tells them. They only report the horror stories. Not the fact that there is a hundred million guns in the US and very few accidents. You are much more likely to get killed driving home

Good Q ... I`m here to tell you if I wake up and somebody is in my house or doing harm to my family I`d waste them in a heart beat. They know they shouldn`t be doing the things they do so they should expect that as a consequence of there action. The court system is just going to give them more rights than the victim and take years to do that. I don`t think as a tax payer I should have to house and feed for YEARS someone on death row..The people they murdered didn`t get a chance to say good bye to their family or to appeal getting murdered. It didn`t matter if they were beat or molested or anything else they're`still just dead, Especially now-a-days with more solid proof with DNA evidence that they are beyond a shadow of a doubt GUILTY

Who is a criminal is decided by a jury of their peers. Not by someone who has a gun. This is not the wild west.

Perhaps all the innocent women and children killed by guns should be posted as an achievement of great americans too.

Here's a site you can visit about responsible gun owners: www.nraila.org.
Use the search window to look up "The Armed Citizen", and you can read about real life stories about responsible gun owners using firearms to protect themselves, their homes, and others against violent criminals.
You can also look up "Britain's gun laws" and read about how violent crimes have risen since they banned the possession of firearms for regular citizens there, and also in Australia.
In England, a person cannot use force to protect themselves or their homes against a robber.
In America, we have the "Castle Doctrine" which states a person CAN use force instead of running out of their own house because a criminal chose to break the law, and violate someone's constitutional rights of self-protection.
I hope you get some good info from this site, it sounds like you need it.

While I am pro gun, or anti registration and regulation, I think the arguement you present gives more ammo to those that oppose the gerneral public having firearms

Excellent idea!

Should we also post an accurate account of how many Iraqis have been killed since the start of the war in March 2003?

How about how many people have died from cigarette related illness (alongside the dollar amount of how much money the tobacco industry has contributed to political campaigns).

Playing with statistics is fun, ain't it?

The number of CHILDREN who are accidentally killed by "responsible" gun owners is by FAR the greater number.

Tell you what. Talk to a family that has lost a child to an accidental (or even purposeful) shooting and then come back and tell me whose grief is greater. The person that lost their DVD or the person that lost their child.

Peace.

criminals wasted? When you say criminal, you could mean someone who did something as minute as steal stamps, and not all criminal activity warrants being "wasted," and it certainly wouldn't be an "achievement of great Americans."
