I will be in Houston for a week after Christmas and I was just wondering if the shuttle was going to be landing there and within that time frame. I figure that would be a pretty cool thing to see. Any information you might have about when this shuttle is coming back to Earth will be appreciated! Thanks

Space Shuttle Mission STS-116

Orbiter: Discovery
Mission: Space Station Assembly Building 12A.1
Payload: P5 Integrated Truss Segment
Launch Date: Dec. 9, 2006
Launch Time: 8:47 p.m. EST
Launch Pad: 39B
Landing Date: Dec. 21, 2006
Landing Time: 3:36 p.m. EST

the link: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/kennedy/about/view/view_shuttle.html gives you 4 locations where you can view the shuttle land.

however, there are some disadvantages though...

Due to cloud cover in the area, shuttle landings are frequently more difficult to see than launches. In addition, there is no on-site viewing area large enough to accommodate the general public. However, any of the off-site viewing locations mentioned in the site can also be used to see a shuttle landing.

Mission Duration: 12 days

notice that they launch and land at the same place, which, unfortunately isn't at houston and it lands 4 days before christmas.

Landing scheduled for Dec 21, 2006. 12 day mission. Space Shuttle Discovery (as with all space shuttles) does not land in Houston after a mission, it lands back at Kennedy Space Centre on the 15,000 foot-long Shuttle Landing Facility. located 3 miles north of the Veichle Assembly Building
