Look in the options for Windows Media Player, it should have a place where you can set which types of files you want to have WMP open instead of Showtime.
Another way to accomplish the same goal is a Large number of registry edits....

open a window, goto Tools, Folder Options, on file types find the desired file type (.avi, mpeg, .mp3) and select which program "from the list" you want to use.
The easy way is to rt. click ona file (a song) and click "open with" when you pick Media Player 10, it will ask usually about changing the default....viola!
Why on earth are you wanting Media Player ??? Use media monkey -- much better

Go to any file with an extension you want wmp to use (such as mp3). Right click on the file, and select "Open with....". Find WMP and select it. Click the "Always use this to open these file" at the bottom of the listing. Now all mp3 files will open with wmp. Repeat for other extensions as needed.
This can be used to associate any extension with any program - not just wmp.
