Changing the computer's name could keep it from joining your local home network (if you have one). But it can be fixed by simply going into the control panel and running the Network Setup Wizard to join it back to the network under the new name.

I agree with the above answers, i have tried myself and the only changing thing is how your computer viewed in the network.

Well, I don't know about yours, but yesterday I called my computer Larry and today I changed it's name to Bob. It still looks and works the same!

if i am not mistaken you cant change the name of your computer because when you install windows the name you register is the name that the computer keeps.even if you could change the name it wont change the hardware.the computer could care less about a name.

It will crash your computer trust me if you are going to do that disconnect the computer and once you change your service reconnect it
