Does the team of Knowledgeables think that re-introducing
Nat; service for all youths & girls, either to service life or
hospital service would reduce the crime rate for this age group
and instill a sense of responsibility ?
Does the team also think that all immigrants to this most
welcoming of countries should contribute in like manner, to show
that they accept it as their true home, and would be prepared to
fight for it, should the need arise, Should another hitler
come calling ??

I think that this is an excellent idea. I've done it and I know that It made a difference to me.
As far as immigrants go, some only come on extended working holidays so I would say That after 4 years during which time they cannot claim any form of benefit, they should apply for citizenship and serve in National service in that year at the end of which they are naturalised. After that they are fully fledged citizens.
I heard on the news that criminal youngsters were complaining that they were being sent to a detention centre more than 50 miles from home. Poor little girls. These mommies boys would die if they were sent 1000 miles or more from home to do their training and as part of that they were sent to the bush with no more than a water bottle and after the first day or two left to eat worms and drink your own piss.

I would say definitely not, you are first going to get a screaming fit from people that are claiming that freedom is being violated, and secondly, I don't think this would really work.

We have to look at the big picture and figure out why our nations youth are starting to get more violent; less family values, bad schooling, no real punishments from parents.. Ah, if you are referring to a "government program" :) We are definitely talking about schools, face it, they are crap. 10 years ago we were producing at least a somewhat intellectual students before the 7th grade, now, well, look at a lot of the questions, you have kids in high school that write up questions that you can't even try to grasp what they are trying to ask, you have kids that can't identify states, or even where the U.S is on a map, haha, pretty sad. You have kids like my sister who are in high school that thinks Mexico borders Illinois!

I would say that we do NOT institute more government programs to take over a parents job of instilling the idea of responsibility, what we need to do is cut back more useless government programs, lower taxes and privatize the entire school system. Give people an option of where to send children and get quality teachers with real benefits, not government paid teachers that randomly go on strike because they can barely afford to live, and we wonder why our school system has gone to crap.

Ok, that is my thought on youth.

As far as immigrants, we do have programs where military service will grant you citizenship, now, should we offer government funding for a program to give immigrants the ability to prove themselves? NO. They should be allowed and be able to prove loyalty to this country by themselves, without government aid.... that shows true dedication. They do have the option of volunteering at places to help other people, they can try to help better the neighborhood they live in, and work on instilling good values to the children, which just might float over to an American youth.

Then, we turn around and use what they have done to determine if they stay or get the boot.

My spelling might be off, got 3 hours of sleep, and I refuse to use the spell checker that is built in just so that our youth don't need to actually know how to spell, they write something that sounds like it should be spelled, hit the button and wow, perfect spelling.

I moved to germany and was surprised to learn that all young people after school must do 1 years national or civil service (in hospitals). I am not saying that there is no crime in Germany but the streets are certainly a lot safer than in Britain and the people have a sense of personal responsibility and seem more grown up that people the same age in Britain.

I'm not sure about immigrants fighting for Britain in a time of need. They need to be citizens in order to do that. If the German govt called on me to fight for them I would have to politely decline. My allegiance is to my country of birth, Ireland.

i believe that instead of housing the small time crims and persistent law breakers they should be made to serve their country, British or not. they get it too cosy in prison with their three square meals a day satellite TV, after all they already have more money spent on them per day than the soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq so make them earn their money and give us tax payers and general hard worker law abiding citizens a break on tax rises.

I always thought it would be good but Ive got a few mates in the army and one who is a marine and not one of them thinks its a good idea just purely on the fact that it would be the regular soldiers who would be spending all their time training and keeping them in order rather than doing their own jobs properly

National service is good to divert the youth from drugs and alcoholism when they are exposed to handling responsibilities.
