Locust
***********
A swarm may have 40 billion locusts in it! It can travel 400 square miles and eat 40 000 tons of plants a day. That is enough to feed a city of 400 000 people for a whole year! Locusts are dreaded by the desert peoples and they are killed with insecticides, fire, explosives and even poison gas!

`locusts` swarms can cover an area of approximately 1,000 square kilometers (400 square miles) at a density of 50 to 100 million insects per square meter, devouring some 80,000 tons of food a day. This quantity is sufficient to feed 40,000 people for a year! Even if a swarm of this size does not consume all the crops, the insects can cause considerable damage to the surrounding area.

Locust is the call given to the swarming component to short-horned grasshoppers of the relatives Acrididae. The origins and obvious extinction of particular species of locust—a number of which attain 6 inches (15 cm) in length—are uncertain. those are species that would breed straight away under proper circumstances and consequently become gregarious and migratory. They type bands as nymphs and swarms as adults- the two one among that can shuttle super distances, straight away stripping fields and very much unfavourable plant life.
