Is their any act that one could commit that would not be selfish, without thinking it could be beneficial?
I make friends because they benefit my sense of worth
I do good to others because it I think it benefits my soul

Lot of acts can be done..
Any act done out of the need of the situation is just a selfless act. Where is the self involved. We merge into the situation , and make our capabilities available, and we do it intensely, dedicated, and joyously. We only chose , not to miss the opportunity made available by the situation... Opportunities are never lost, somebody picks the ones we miss.

It depends on how you look at it, if a tree falls in the Forrest type of thing. devils advocate here I go.

No, everything you do, you do for some sort of gain. I help someone change their tire thinking that someone will do it for me, because it gives me that warm fuzzy, whatever the reason there is a self-benefiting reason, that is a selfish act.

Yes an unselfish act would be to look up in the sky right this second, see if you did it, you didn't do it because you thought there would be a reward, you did it because of the power of influence, that is an unselfish act

The essence of our being is unconditional love. Find unity with God in unconditional love within your own heart. Once one performs all actions (Gods will). As loving service to God and all he created, leaving the fruit of all action to God,then all one does is Selfless action, Dharma, doing ones duty, with Love.
