Required can be relative. What I feel is an acurate requirement may not be your perception of the required amount unless something is filled to capacity. In that case it would be a sin because the excess would be waisted.

A highly debatable point. Take this a step further...if we didn't accumulate more than we needed, what harm would be done to the economy? How would that effect those who produce what we are accumulating? Are we to stifle imagination by blocking the creative process in putting a limit on product? Wouldn't that mean more unemployment? What about those who have a need to own more than their neighbor?
I don't think one should overindulge, but there are ramifications of stopping the production and accumulation that we cannot imagine.

I don't think so. Really, wasting things is the only thing i can think of that's morally reprehensible. And with that said, I think its possible to accumulate more then you need, with out being wasteful. Also "required" is so subjective and relative that is would be nearly impossible to standardize what "required" is. Its like I say, "the body may be sustained by food and drink, but soul requires more."

Philosophy is an accumulation of more thoughts than you need to live. Is that a sin? It's what you do with it that counts.

think about what happened to the Israelites in the bible when manna fell from the sky. No one was suppose to save any...but as usual the Israelites didn't listen...and then all the manna they save from the day before turned into worms....now you tell me if it's a sin to accumulate more than what is required.

sin is a moral issue. accumulation becomes a moral issue only when it is practised at the expense of others.
