Countries for decades didn't attack us. As the sole global hegemon, we're secure in our ability to say "if you attack us, you're just asking for us to come over there and beat the sh*t out of you". Countries are hesitant to form alliances against us because they know we could easily pull together a counter alliance which would, from an international relations standpoint, be much more powerful since we'd be in it (again, sole global hegemon thing).

That said, our position as said hegemon is slowly but surely on the decline. This American fantasy that we can be a superpower for however long we want to be is ridiculous. What happened to the British and before them the French and before them the Romans and before them the Persians will happen to us. Our power will decrease as those of other powers grow. China is likely to become the main global power in our lifetime. India will probably topple them. And then someone will topple them. That's not to say we'll vanish; no, but we'll be like the British: a wealthy secure nation with relatively little global influence but plenty of regional sway. So countries in the long term will actually increase their "attacks on us". But what will these "wars" be? In today's day and age, they'll likely be economic (trade agreements, embargoes and tariffs) rather than actual military war.

Countries have "wised up" and have taught America their country is no longer the be all - end all of the world.
The majority of Americans now think globally, and actually question the the impact and outcomes of the political decisions made on the behalf of a nation by a leader of questionable DNA.

To every reaction, there is an equal and opposite reaction. If one screws with someone, that someone will do some pretty crazy things.
