My company have given me a contract in writing to start a new internal role but have not specified a start date (it says TBC). They said they are aiming for end of Feb. Is this a good thing having it in writing? This is a legal document if I sign it right? My only concern is if they delay it (i.e. cant find someone for my position).

yes, it is probably a good thing that you have this in writing as it will also set out other terms of the contract. since they have told you that they aim for the end of feb then this will be an implied term. unless they give you a reasonable excuse as to why this will not be the case, and either delay or terminate the contract then this could be an incident of frustration (if it is becuse your position cant be filled) in which case the contract could be repudiated and you may be able to seek for minor damages

Quite a normal situation in this type of case. Whether you sign it or not the contract becomes your contract after a set period anyway. I think that period is 30 days but not sure.
Good luck with the new position and have a happy Christmas.

The contract of employment must be dated so that you know when to start. Otherwise, the company will have a unilatral decision on the commencement of your work.

You have to have one in place afetr 13 weeks of starting the job, but once you sign it then it is legally binding.

get it in a document saying that they will take you, but dont sign it. if you get a document guaranteeing you can have a house for a certain price, and only you can buy it, youre not legally forced to buy it.
