In the East it's only about 4 real teams that has a chance.
Miami Heat--they are not a regular season team so they are just waiting for the playoffs
Cleveland Cavs--LeBron James
New Jersey Nets
Detroit Pistons
In the West
San Antonio Spurs
Phoenix Suns
Dallas Mavericks
Utah Jazz

The Jazz have been making a lot of noise early in the season but i expect them to start becoming just above average. i still think they will win the division but their torrid pace will end.
Yao Ming is playing at MVP level but since the rockets just lost Tmac i don't expect houston to remain an elite team for the time being but they will make the playoffs for sure and if tmac is healthy during the postseason expect a good first round matchup.
Miami will make the playoffs just because the East is mediocre but i cant see them making the finals because the chemistry and effort isnt there plus Shaq is getting worse and worse.
Lebron and the cavs are among the East elite but his supporting cast is too weak so i cant see them making the finals
The east has to go down between the bulls, pistons, or magic
i expect the pistons to win it all in the east because the magic is relatively young and unexperienced...plus if u look at their roster its not really a deep and talented team.
San antonio should win it in the west

Hey, sounds crazy, but watch out for Orlando. On top of the East for now, but they will probably drop in the standings, since three starters (hill, turkoglu, and nelson) are out for a bit and 6th man keyon dooling is out too. During this time, I see guys like Redick and Diener getting more and more time, Dwight Howard getting even better (sounds crazy huh), and by the time these guys come back... expect more of what we saw when they won 9 of 11 recently to take the top spot in the East. One things for sure though, the West is way better than the East... but I follow the East more, so here's my Eastern Conference predictions:
I'm picking Cleveland to win the Atlantic Division and lead the East (assuming they stay injury-free, having Hughes back is a huge boost), Detroit to win the Central (Chicago will make a run sooner or later, they finish the season hot), Washington to win the Southeast (Orlando will fall behind, and make a Chicago-like run late, ending up as the number 4 seed, just missing Washington).

I am enjoying Orlando's continued improvements. They looked a lot better last season than they had in the past, and it's really showing up this season.
As much as I love the Pistons, unfortunately I think it will be a rough season. Losing Ben Wallace screws up the starting five chemistry they have going, and it may take this season to recover fully.

The Magic are good outsiders this year, despite the last two games! Go Howard!
