Love American Style. The episode was called Love and the Happy Days. (The father on that epsidoe was played by Harold Gould. I think all other actors remained the same)

Happy Days spun off five different live-action series: Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, Joanie Loves Chachi, Blansky's Beauties, and Out of the Blue.

The movie American Grafitti was probably what inspired its genesis. Movie came out in '73 and did well, tv show started in '74.
