If you don't need the television for your job, get rid of it. It's drastic, but take it from a fellow couch potato: it may be the only way. You may want to get rid of it for, say, a month, forcing you to find other things to do. Then you can slowly start integrating TV back into your life, starting with just the networks and, if you can handle it responsibly, adding cable.

Do thumb exercises until you develop strength to press the off button on the TV. Then do yourself a favor and grab a book instead.

No, I'd say you need a job. And you might benefit from opening up the window and throwing your tv out. Just check to make sure no one is standing in its trajectory, or you'll not only have a lawsuit on your hands, but no tv to escape reality with.

get really drunk and destroy it. throw it off a roof and then make the world around you become your entertainment. its hard to do i just kicked tv about a month ago but better off without it. its controlled networking. believe none of what your hear and half of you see.
