My step-son (13 yrs old) was telling me about it one day..... saying how they slash their wrists.

That disturbed me because I had no idea what he was talking about.

He's sort of into metal music and dark things, and you never know how deep kids are really into something because they'll only show you the tip of the iceburg.

I don't want to be unduly alarmed though because he's very intelligent and close to his mum, dad and myself.

I'd like to know more though.

Can't say i understand the whole thing; am too past it!

My mate was round the other day and she said that it was used as a term for goths who were not quite goth enough. Goths not being goths as they were back in the '80's; original goths you could say (Sisters or Mercy, Drainpipe trousers, The Mission, black eyeliner and Cider and Black) but these young whippersnapper neo goths into Big flarey trousers and Marilyn Manson (It all sounds quite Early nougthies to be a goth then) with pierced everythings.

I was of the impression it was a thing in itself seperate from goth and that emo is short for 'emotional' and generally means wearing lots of black, looking glum and listening to My Chemical Romance. That must make me an emo and I'm a married old biddy in her thirties...

It's supposed to mean Emotional Rock and apparently bands like MCR,Aiden,Fall out Boy and Panic at the Disco are all emo bands.
I have met alot of fans of these bands who may look emo but are not depressed and do not hate life but are friendly, funny and very bright.

I actually have a nephew whom is an Emo and he is going to church, and would not even imagine about doing stupid loopy such issues as that! i'd really have an emo newborn than a baby wears his/her outfits baggy each of how down previous his/her ***!

Emo used to mean emotional rock! It now seems to be nothing about music but all about spoilt teenagers with greasy black hair, talking about how their parents hate them, and that they hate the world and the world hates them, and how the razorblade is their best freind! It bugs the hell out of me music is no longer enjoyed for what it is, its now used as a fasion statement. Half of these kids that claim to be emo probably couldn't give you the name of more than 1 emo band!

EMO. . .

E- emotional

M- mentally unstable (sort of)

O- out of place (that's wat they feel)

being emo isn't bad. . . i mean it's uniqueness. It's a sterotype some others want to be part of to pose, but some prefer not to be called 'emo'. There's a difference between emo and goth! (i might add)
If you want to know, it's about people who just have too much emotions that they feel they don't belong, and they tend to want to stadn out. ^_^ I hope that answered you question :)

Well generally people consider EMOs as people who are extremely emotional and who slit their wrists because they are so depressed. they wear black all the time. have black hair. listen to My Chemical Romance etc

But that's just the stereotype really. i mean i wear black all the time (but i don't do any of the others above.)
