My opinion on this is , we all like to be liked and accepted by our peers and loved ones.I really believe that when you hear the old saying ,"not everyone will like you ,or you can't please everyone ", it is true, but we all in general love to be loved, it shows our worth to people and mostly to ourselves. And when you really get down to it peoples opinion are all we really have!

THis is a survival trick. people admire you if you are worthy of emulating, or your deeds are crucial to other people's survival.
admiration from others will make you do your good deed repeatedly at a considerable amount of energy expenditure on your part. But the reward is that repeated exercise will optimize your strategies thus minimizing energy. Society and you both will benefit. In acts of chivalry or so admiration is greater because it is a losing strategy for an individual,

Our excitement is the emotional reward for such risky energy zapping exercise. Since we are encouraged in our early chil dhood to do things that is essential for our survival by the parent guardian (Humans depend so much from cues from their parents adults because unlike other animals e'g' cows , human is unable to do the most basic things at birth). So admiration prompts them to do the correct thing. This excitement is repeated later.
