If he is using 'playground tactics' you should be able to rise above it.
You probably have heard this before, but the best way to deal with this is NOT to stoop down to his level. Is there a complaint or harrassment section in your workplace?

Revenge is such a strong issue and may lead to other (unpleasant) counter actions from the bully (once you been found out)
can you move job? (promotion even better)

Pre-occupying yourself with revenge takes more out of you then you'll get back.

I have (and probably still are) been bullied a lot myself. I have taken revenge more than occaisionally.. but it always came back .. life is funny that way.
I found that concentrating on the friends and friendly people around me created a better and positive environment and the bully(ies) lost interest fairly quickly (or I have just not noticed any bullying..)

My advise: leave the revenge and use your energy and thoughts on something more worthwhile.

There's an old proverb, "talk quietly but carry a big stick".

Make a record of everything that he/she does. Keep hard copies of anything possible (emails, etc) and if collegues see anything, ask them to write a short e-mail to you confirming what happened.

Build yourself a rock solid case against them and then you have two choices. If they're are that bad, put a copy on your directors desk. Or you can put a copy on their desk and say "have a read, now back off or it'll find it's way further up the ladder".

If he doesn't back off then just go see the director, but it's always usefull to have a hold over someone like that though in case they do it to other people, and at that point if anyone is in a similar situation to you, gently remind them that there's still a brown envelope with some interesting information in it lurking about.....

As any of these answers will do some damage to your fellow co-working bully, may i recommend something???

I was being bullied at work about 8 - 10 yrs ago. He is playing on your weakness. To him you seem insecure, an easy target, and you don't fight back. So this makes it fun for him to torment you. This is the same thing I had went through those years ago.

Now. Usually I don't recommend this, but it does work. Play some small practical jokes on him. Give him the impression that you have excepted his challenge and are "fighting back". He will continue to hassle you for a while, he is used to it, and you should expect it. After you play a few practical jokes on him, set up a practical joke on another co-worker. Inform him of the joke so you BOTH can laugh about it. Thus ending the torment on you. This is a real life story that I have lived.

These days "the bully" and I share laughs about the good old days of the pranks we pulled together.......

Plus I worked my but off to get a promotion over him...

Getting revenge on someone requires clever thinking and planning. What do you know about this guy? Find his weakness and use it. You are right to avoid violence, it solves nothing and usually ends up with you in trouble. Being more cunning and smart about it will do the trick twice as well.

Here is one idea...
Set up a myspace account or something similar in his name. Sign it up for every weird and wacky group you can. Post all sorts of strange stuff on the profile so when he is searched for, people read that he is odd. Find his weakness...would he be mortified by people thinking he is gay? would he be crushed by people thinking he is into swinging? How would he feel if people read that his favourite move is pretty woman? Those types of things. Then, set up a hotmail email address or whatever, and send a link to everyone at work!

Just a thought...

hide some fish where he works, such as the underside of his desk.
People will associate the inevitable horrendous smell with him.

Humiliation, that's what you need. Violence will just make you look silly.

You could use his phone to order a call girl to come to his office, give instructions for her to ask for him at reception.

Also, if you boil up a packet of mints, and scoop out the layer that forms at the top of the water, this can be used to devastating effect. Put a teaspoon in his drink and within minutes, his bowels will release. Its not just the runs, he won't have any control at all - it'll all just fall out without warning. Witnessed this at uni.

Read The Count of Monte Cristo and use Edmund's ways to find an appropriate revenge, but remember that revenge is not always a good answer.

ignoring will help but some people dont learn so a prank might do but you will be his first suspect, so just bully him back and stand up to him. tell him to go where the sun dont shine coz you dont care if he thinks he is above everyone in the world he is so wrong and tell him why his grannies nany never loved him.
surely he has a weakness, most bullies are hiding a physical or emotional problem, find that and you can win!!!
thumbs up!

From work.... well you coulda always report a case aginst him. If he hits you, bring him to justice. Just make sure you have a wittness and there is a mark left where he hit you. Or else just tell your boss to have a word with him and get him fired (but this could result in him killing you like most bullies say).

Ignore him completely, treat him like he does not exist. He hassles you in an attempt to provoke a reaction, and give you a hard time. If he physically assaults you in front of witnesses, then do him for harrasment. Also, be very good at your job, and prove you are better than him. Keep away from him where possible.
