YES ABSOLUTELY!!!! ARTIC SILVER 5 ALL THE WAY BABY YEAH!!!! You put it on the CPU and if there is thermal compound or a thermal pad on the heatsink/fan clean it off that stuff is junk.

YES!! It will be applied to the top of the CPU in a BB sized droplet BEFORE you install the CPUs fan/heatsink. DO NOT over use the compound, it can ruin stuff in there! The best thermal compound to get is "Arctic Silver". If this is a brand new CPU install, there should be a gray pad of compound already installed on the bottom of the heatsink, just make sure there isn't a protective plastic "skin" on the pad, if there is remove it before the installation of the heatsink/fan.

If you're building a NEW computer with a new processor, heatsink and fan ... the heatsink should come with a thermal pad already attached ... it's usually a grey square pad in the middle of the heatsink... if this is the case then No you don't need to add thermal grease ... if it's an old heatsink ... then Yes ... clean off the old dried thermal pad and apply a fresh smear of thermal paste

The thermal compound does dry out, it does not stay gel, this is designed to fill interior the imperfections on the processor perfect and the warmth sink backside to get a purifier floor touch. as quickly as its on it is going to do its activity until the factors are pulled aside.

Yes, but be careful not to apply too much.
Leakage of this compound can do more damage than none at all.
