Maybe hiding the tickets in a bird cage (Canary..?) or doing some kind of clue game or something with an atlas. Ideas please!

Buy a Date Plam Tree [plant] and attached the ticket in an envelope around the tree or buy a coconut, cut a hole on the top, empty the coconut milk out and put the ticket inside with several colourful straws.

You could do a take on the box-within-a-box method.

Get a bunch of boxes of different sizes together and some extra, fairly inexpensive things that would have to do with your trip. When the recipient opens the first box, maybe they'll find a bottle of sunscreen. The next box, a pair of cheap sunglasses. The next, a small travel guide about the Canary Islands. And then the last box, of course, would have the tickets.
