I have two equally dumb moves and they would belong to Houston and Miami.
Houston drafted Mario Williams and passed on Bush, Leinhart and Young. Of the three, they should have drafted Young given his ties to Houston.
As far as Miami, how dumb are the doctors that passed on Brees. Saban wanted Brees but Miami doctors nixed the deal. Miami would be on the way to the Super Bowl with Brees at the helm. Look what he has done for the Saints.

The Texans for drafting Mario Williams with the first pick. If they wanted Mario Williams so bad, they should've traded down and gotten something for the first pick. Teams were chomping at the bit to try to get Reggie Bush or Vince Young (or even Matt Leinart). They could've gotten compensation for the pick, signed Williams to less money (for not being the 1st pick in the draft) and drafted another good player (because we all know the Texans need all the help they can get).
A close second is the Detroit Lions. For keeping Matt Millen. God help all the Lions fans (if there are any even left).

For the KC chiefs to retain Carl Peterson. He is a most excellent business man, but they will never make the superbowl with him at the helm. Too bad about Lamar Hunt, perhaps his son doesn't like carl and they'll boot him when his contract expires. The chiefs decision to hire Herm Edwards there as well was an actual decision made this year.....and a poor one. He is a defensive coach end of story and that's all he'll ever be. I think to keep Brett Favre on for another year was a mistake...someone should have motivated him to retire before the year began because this is just NOT good for football to see someone of his personality and stature go out like this. Otherwise there are just too many mistakes to point out at this juncture, I'd be here forever.... be well, Jack

The Tennessee Titans for treating Steve McNair like dirt. And then trading him for just a fourth round pick.
McNair took the high road the whole time. And now look what he's doing with the Ravens. He's taken a non-playoff team from 2005 and made them a Super Bowl contender.
Brian Billick has McNair to thank as the reason he kept his job.

Well, Houston passing on both Reggie Bush and Vince Young in the draft is going to be a popular answer, so I'll go another direction.
It was probably the Raiders either hiring Tom Walsh away from his bed and breakfast in Idaho to be their offensive coordinator, or letting Kerry Collins go and bringing in Aaron Brooks to replace him.
For 2005, I'll tell you it was the Packers letting both guards go through free agency. It devastated their run game, which led almost directly to their 4-12 record.

hey kevlar1...the texans took Mario Williams, not Deangelo
Deangelo Williams plays for the Panthers and is pretty nasty
The stupidest decision was definitely on the Dolphins part by taking an awful QB coming off a serious injury (Culpepper) instead of a great QB that can lead a team coming off a serious injury (Brees)

The Houston Texans. They continue to call themselves a NFL team when they play at the level of a DII college team.

The Texans. That draft pick just blew their season.
The Cowboys. Picked up TO. And should have put Romo in sooner, the division might have already been clinched.
The Broncos. Should have put Cutler in sooner. Might have had a better chance for a playoff spot.

To me the Oakland Raiders started the season off with nothing but stupid mistakes.
1 They passed on Matt Leinart in the draft
2 They hired a head coach that's been out of football for years
3 Al Davis should let a good GM run things, but he won't.
