It's not clear what tradition you're referring to. There are many traditions, usually associated with a holiday or religion. Some traditions have nothing to do with either. There are school friends who get together every few years just to keep up and share photos of grandkids. Family reunions are a tradition.

Some people make a big deal out of it because it means something special to them. They're entitled to that.

If it means nothing special to you, let that by your tradition.

According to the link below, tradition comes the Latin "to hand down".

People make a big deal out of tradition because it is just part of America, its what our country is founded on, or made up of. We are a country of multiple traditions handed down from other generations and the countries they had originally came from. Tradition is a link to our heritage, to the way things were done before. It's a sence of peace and contentment to know that 100 yrs ago our relatives did the very same thing on the very same night, and we will hand this down to our children. I guess in a way tradition connects us to our past families.

Merry Christmas!!

It is part of what makes them a family and they like to pass it on to the children so when they grow up they will go on celebrating in the manor of their tradition. I guess that they think it also that it is part of what makes their family unique too.

is like do not forget your roots.

buddha says, "do not believe in things just because they are passed down from traditions."

buddha says,"do not just believe in my teachings but after only careful analysis based on your experience and analysis."

ps: there are certain truths in traditions in certain angles but life is complex.
