I have been looking on this website and im shocked and appalled that there seems to be no mention of the Ipswich murders that are occuring, 5 young women who are innocent have been killed brutally. but apparantly there is no mention of this on here, is that because English news doesnt get on to American TV.
I think its disgusting considering when the Washingtoon sniper was active we all heard about it in England.
any thoughts from either side of the pond

Do you have any idea of all the stuff going on in the news in the US these days?

We have enuff problems of our own without televising foreign serial killers.

If it were a slow news cycle, then it probably would get coverage.

In addition...
The news generally covers what interests the audience. A serial killer in another country doesn't have much impact on the US citizens, nor does it attract a lot of individual interests.

You see a lot of US coverage because there is interest in seeing bad things happen here when it comes to personal matters, and you see a lot of coverage for US international activities because it does have a large impacct overseas.

I am not trying to be rude or arrogant (i have worked overseas a lot and I really love the Brits), just saying it how it is.

Well pretty much, in any given Metropolitan city of decent size in America, that story is daily news. We had 2 12 year old girls murdered, placed into oil drums and then he attempted to put them into a concrete foundation, I'll bet you never heard about that.

It's not that we don't care, it is just that we are numb to news like that. We do get BBC on extended cable but we have 400 other channels of crap to watch, when the news comes on, especially from elsewhere, it is onna get changed to the freakin' Cartoon network or something. I hope they catch the creep(s) that are doing it and hang 'em by their balls.

As a matter of fact the murders of the five young woman did make American media. It has been compared to and the media has connected it to the murders of young women found in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I think your problem is personal, you are not forced to watch or listen to anything, you choose to. England does matter, you are the one who is shocked and appalled, maybe if you opened your eyes and your ears, you will get the same thing everyone else is getting, the sad news that young women are being hunted like animals as are blacks and Hispanics in New York, it is all suppose to me "NEWS" and it is up to the individual as to what they see and hear and what they comprehend.

I actually rarely see anything on the news that is foreign (I'm in the US). It has to have someone famous involved or be a major catastrophe (like a hundred people dead or something).

But maybe that's just me, I live in a small area and it mostly covers local news. But even on the net I don't often see much.

My friend, get real. This is Yahoo Answers, a site inhabited entirely by children, bored teenagers and generally social inept adults with a political axe to grind. And you expect a considered discussion on serious issues here ??? I think you may be wasting your time.

Ofcourse England matters. But have you ever been over to America and lived there for a little while? All their news is predominantly American - I found it quite insular to be honest. Also, does that killer really need international attention - as this is probably exactly what he is seeking which could be dangerous.

there were a lot of questions relating to this yesterday, sadly the majority of them were from people mocking and joking about the murders. Maybe people complained and yahoo have been removing the ones in poor taste?
