There was this magical 'Willy Wonka like' place that was filled with candy and ice cream... They used to deliver you birthday cake on dragons with dancers.
Do these ice cream parlors still exist?
I only went one time when I was 7. It's just a distant fuzzy memory now. Anyone else have any memories of this place?

There are two Farrell's in existence - one in Santa Clarita, California and one at the Windward Mall near Honolulu, Hawaii. The chain began in Portland, Oregon in 1963 and was acquired by Marriott in 1972. Management and concept difficulties caused it to drop from over 100 stores in 1976 to just 2 in 1992. There is more information about it at www.happyitis.biz.

I remember very well and have photographic evidence of the joy and glee we all shared there as kids. I had 2 birthday parties at Farrell's when we were small and lived in Sunnyvale, CA ( home of Yahoo! I might add).

I don't believe they are still in business. Which is really a shame. I loved Swensens Ice Cream too and they are gone also.
The only old fashioned " sit and enjoy" ice cream place I know of anymore is called Leatherby's and they are in the Sacramento, CA area.

Maybe there's a "market" there... all things return at some point.

I remember them! They were great for birthdays! Scoop after scoop, huge mounds of ice cream. I've never seen so much to this day! And they had all that old fashioned candy too. Yum!
I live in Florida and I don't know of any left in the state. There used to be one in Birmingham, AL, but it's probably gone now too. How sad. It was a great place to go for a celebration, wasn't it?

Of course. Had that wall of candy that you had to walk through just to get to the restaurant part.....Had lollipops the size of your dads head and everyone had their birthday parties there!! Had my ninth there.....woooooo hoooooo! And, there was a sundae so big that if you could eat it all....it was free. Ahhhh yes Farrell's.... I don't believe they exist any longer and do you know what? They were started by McDonalds. Be well and have a most cheerful holiday season!! Jack

Ah yes! What was it now? You ordered "The Trough" and they brought, what like, 5 pounds of ice cream in a trough and if you ate it all you got it free!! And when it was your birthday they paraded around your Birthday Special (Two guys running around with your Ice Cream in a stretcher on their shoulders) along with sirens and flashing lights. Oh Yeah!!
