Media hype. Look at all the movies that have arabs as the bad guys. Also the government seems to like to keep the people in fear so that when they "rescue" them they look good. That's why we hear all the bad news and not the good. That's the purpose of the HomeIand Security Movement. I am an american living in Europe. It is interesting to have a different perspective on the United States. I see that the U.S. public has become complacent and really doesn't do much to find out that their government may not be following the will of the people. My experience in speaking with friends and family in the States that many people do not agree with what is going on but that doesn't seem to have any affect on change. I think there are too many state secrets being kept from the people - that if the people knew they would stand up and do something.
This is probably more than you wanted but basicly peoples' fear combined with a (false) sense of security keeps them from investigating or seeing from another point of view, whether that be arab, chinese or exterrestrial. It's like this, 'the arabs are bad but our government is going to protect us so everything is o.k.'.
It seems like people like to have an enemy that they can blame everything on rather than looking within to see how we contribute to a problem. Have no fear of going to live in the States, there will be many people who will love you! The thing I love about americans is that most realize that we all came from somewhere else (even the natives migrated from elsewhere) that we all have different culture but we are able to live together in peace. (mostly! My neighbors are two sisters from Tunisia and they fight constantly!).

The government and the media have brainwashed people into thinking badly about Arabs. They're always portrayed as terrorists, violent and uncivilized, women-haters etc. They have been given so many negative labels and people generally don't get to see the good sides and the good majority (normal people in the Arabic countries), they only see/hear about the bad minority that causes trouble and assume that the rest is the same. Many Americans are ignorant about Arabs and ignorance causes fear. They've been taught that Arabs are bad guys, so they fear them and hate them and don't even know that there is no reason to and that most Arabs are normal, good people just like most Americans.

If you are talking about Arabs as a whole Americans don't hate them. We are in a war on terrorism started by people from an Arab country. Listen to the President of Iran. He has said that he will have nukes and he will use them. He wants Israel completely annihilated, wiped off the face of the earth.Arabs love to raise the gas prices so much that we can hardly afford to drive our cars. i know that many people's dreams are to come to the USA, and i don't blame them, the USA is a wonderful country with so much opportunity.
