Birth control, also called contraception, is any method used to prevent pregnancy. It allows you to choose whether or when to have a child. There are many different kinds of birth control
-Hormonal methods such as the birth control pill, or skin patches. Hormone birth control prevents pregnancy by stopping monthly egg production. It can also relieve heavy periods and cramping.
-Barrier methods, such as condoms, diaphragms, cervical caps or spermicides. Barriers are less effective than hormonal methods, they attempt to stop the sperm from traveling to the cervix.

There are so many different types of birth control available to women today, especially when you compare the options to those that your mother or grandmother had! The key is understanding, amid all the options, that each method is designed to prevent pregnancy, but also offers a variety of potential benefits and risks. All of these factors are what make birth control a highly personal choice. Oral contraceptives (The Pill) are taken to prevent pregnancy and work primarily by inhibiting ovulation. They suppress the hormone activity in the brain and the ovaries. In this way, they prevent ovulation from occurring. They are the most popular method of birth control among women in the Western world. Most oral contraceptives prescribed today are called combination pills because they include two kinds of hormones: estrogen and progestin. Monophasic pills have a fixed dose of hormones throughout the month, while triphasic pills have different levels of hormones for each “active” week to mimic the hormonal changes of the menstrual cycle. More recently, monophasic extended cycle pills have been approved. These monophasic pills reduce the frequency of the period by extending the time between the placebo interval, when a withdrawal bleed is experienced.

Birth control is a way to avoid pregnancy. It can inlucde withdrawal prior to ejaculation, condoms, a pill which prevents an egg from implating on the uteran wall, or various other means of introducing such hormones into the females system, they also have a hormone which can cause the male to be temporarily sterile. Some people choose to use diaphrams, which block the sperm from entering the uterus and there are also spermicidal lubricants which kill sperm upon entry into the female. Finally there is also a method of timing intercourse so that it does not coincide with the time frame during which the female is ovulating. None of these methods are one hundred percent, but discouting withdrawal, most are highly successful.

Birth control is what keeps a woman from getting pregnant. Sometimes it's prescribed by a doctor and sometimes it is bought at a store (over the counter).
How old are you and what country do you live in? Doesn't your school teach you these things?
