its got a very good story with plot twists and dark narrative. it also used the main character having amnesia and you having to uncover his story line, a technique which has been done to death since. its one of my favourite games but im tired of that style of game now, its old hat and ive played too many of them but i may try and dig a copy of ff7 from somewhere to re-play it one day.

What makes FFVII one of the greatest games created? The graphics were great for it's time, 1997 was a big year for Square. The character's stories were unbelievably deep, the storyline was flawless, and everything made sense. There wasn't anything left out or unexplained. I absolutely loved it and believe that there is no greater. ... That's all based on opinion though. We'll just leave it at the fact that it's based on opinion and you'd have to play it for yourself, if you haven't, though playing it in 2006 is kind of making it look bad. Travel time and play it in 1997.

The fact that it was one of the 1st games to combine cutting edge technology, with a great plot but it also had a relatively unlinear side to it as well...

tonnes of side games.

I love it, its in my top 3 games of all time (Along with Broken Sword 1 and Deus Ex)

cool characters
had some cool fmv (back in ps1 days fmv was awesome)
great soundtrack
great gameplay (coming from someone new to rpgs)
graphics were awesome, even if prerendered, artistic style was cool
awesome summons and animations
interesting story not set in some fairytale land

thats some of the things i liked about it, one of my top fav games of all time (and i'm not a huge rpg fan) Most credit FFVII as the rpg that crossed succesfully into mainstream gamers collections

I agree, cutting edge graphics and non linear gameplay makes FF7 one of the best. The more recent FF games have been losing originality though, FF10 and 12 look too similar.
