I don't know but some say it;s Satan's language and others say people use it because they don't know proper english so they put in those fowl words instead.

I don't know why a majority use it, some use it on accident and others use it on purpose. Ok I do admit I have sweared a few times but constantly on purpose all the time.

I always thought that the one was
For unlawful carnal knowlege

and the word was meant to convey the disqust, and the shame of those acts.
its only recently that its become ok to behave like an animal out in the open, and have sex without restraint.

Like telling someone to go get bent( to go have anal sex), which is shockingand insulting to a strait man.

Some are slurs on words for something else.,

for example shite for feces.
I mean, if I called you a poop head, isn't that insulting and abusive?

and then the children grew up into adults,
and it still was shocking behavior, those kinda words,
Just like kids see adults smoking , and want to look cool.

in short,
swearing is speach mean to convey disquest, or some other strong negative emotion, by its attachement to the original meaning...

bor example
*****,
in a male dominated society,
and at a time when Dogs were considered the lowest, ( sick like a dog, worked like a dog)

a female dog was considered the lowest of the two,
so callign someong that was saying they are the lowest of the low,

damn comes from damnation
a strong rejection

hell, from a place of torments,

and so on.....

I think swearing is a person with out the ablitly to use any of the other 400,000 words to convey what they want to say by the way.

You mean swearing as in verbal cursing, as opposed to "swearing an oath"? It's pretty much as old as spoken language itself. We treat words as having certain power, and with that comes the idea that some words are so strong that they "shouldn't" be spoken. Though what's considered a swear word changes from culture to culture and century to century.

There are some words that are considered vulgar now, but were not considered that way long ago (the fact that "piss" shows up several times in the Bible is one of my favorite examples). And some words that are considered bad in the UK but not the US, and vice versa. A lot of the differences over time have a lot to do with what's considered offensive in the given day and age. Often racial slurs are considered "worse" than sexual slurrs these days, though it was the opposite 50 years ago.

I guess they was just popular (especially lower class) words for things, but the upper classes wanted to separate themselves from the commoners so avoided such words. But swearing doesn't seem to have been seen as so awful in the past (see Chaucer for some good ole anglo saxon words), maybe people have just got more uptight and obsessed with genteel conduct.

Swearing comes from ignorant, uneducated people who have such a poor grasp of their language that they need to resort to rude, slang terms to express emphasis on their ideas.
