The tightening part sounds like Brackston Hicks Contractions. They are like practice contractions that your body does to prepare itself for labour (I'm Canadian and Labour is spelled correctly LOL). More then likely you are getting some mild contractions (that are real as well) I am guessing that the next time you visit your O.B. you will find that you are some what dilated or at least somewhat effaced (the uterus thinning). The sharp stabbing pains I know all too well. After asking my Dr. many times he kept reassuring me that it is just the mussels being stretched. This sharp pain can even feel like it is right in the vagina and it is still normal. Its nothing to worry about. You are very close to having that baby, and your body is getting ready as well as getting tired of being pregnant! LOL.

I wish you the best of luck with everything! And the best to you and your baby! Oh by the way, just a thought....If you have not already decided about getting an epidural or not. I would recommend it. It allows you to enjoy the labour and your baby once the baby is born and it gives you more pleasant memories of the birth rather then thinking back about all the pain you where in. Just a thought!

Congratulations on you impending birth. This sounds like you could be very close to labour, sharp pains may be from the pressure of the baby but having braxton hicks every ten minutes especially if its frequent and regular it could be the start of labour. I would contact your hospital and see what they have to say, they may ask you to come in to check if your starting to thin and dilate. the first stage of labour can be painless but as labour progresses the contractions become more frequent and regular as well as more intense.

Relax and have a warm bath then call your hospital to ask there opinion, the midwifes there will have your record and will be able to check you out if need be. Keep calm and try to relax I'm sure everything is fine just getting you ready for birth. Good luck.

Your body is preparing for labor. The contractions you are feeling are called Braxton-Hicks. They are your uterus preparing for childbirth by contracting & stretching.

They can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful but should not last long and do not usually come in regular intervals. If you have any spotting or discharge or they start coming close together, say every 5-7 minutes, you might want to call your doctor just to be sure.

My sister did. I'm not sure what was the cause, but the doc said it was normal. And she had it for awhile and she didn't go into labor and each visit she wasn't even dilated. So not all times is there a need for worry. If it's high up in the stomach it's usually ok then if it's low. It could be the baby in your crowded belly! :)

is it like stomach pains or contractions? if its stomach pains, its probally just from the baby moving around getting ready to say hello! right now, his feet are right up there where your stomach is, and if he's moving around alot, i'd be watching for some contractions, could be any day now! good luck!
