From what I recall the intelligence of an animal is generally correllated to the ratio between the size of the brain compared to the body mass. For example an sperm whale has a brain 100,000 times the size of an ants but is not necassarily 100,000 times as smart. I found this link on google with a more in-depth report into it, so have a look. It quote the most intelligent land animal (other than humans) as Great Apes, sea animals as Whales and Dolphins and flying animals as Crows and Parrots. It's quite an interesting report actually if you read it!

I guess your looking for an answer other than humans.
One of the things that identify us as, supposedly, the most intelligent life on the planet is our self-awareness. In the animal kingdom only two species have been proven to have self-awareness, elephants and chimpanzees. Dolphins are clever, but are not self-aware.
Additionally, chimpanzee's are our closest relative, so you would hope they would be fairly smart.....

I would have to say Dolphins followed by a poisonous tree frog called the Amazonian Flier and then monkeys. Humans kill one another, kill other mammals and pollute the planet....we're hardly the most intelligent. be well, Jack

Elephants....I just recently read a study that showed elephants are able to recognize their reflection in a mirror as themselves, which is rare! Most animals don't know they're looking at themselves in a mirror.

In the movie called "Hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy" was mice. Some says dolphins are the smartest. Some says man kind are the smartest...who knows!
