G'day,

Altona is a place with contradiction. It is not too far away from the CBD, easily connected by Princess Hwy & train.

The beach area is nice with beach and some shops lining the streets. I actually passed by the area just yesterday evening and the thing that struck me first was the very strong fishy smell. It might be because of the tide.

There are also the industrial area in Altona. So obviously you wanna check where you are going to be located.

I live in Point Cook, which is the next suburb after Altona, abt 5min away. It is a new residential estates with excellent facilities around here. You may want to visit and have a look as well. Some of the estates are very nicely done like Sanctuary Lakes.

Good luck.

I am a student living in Altona. I find this place to be peaceful and has got a beach nearby. Located in Zone 1. It is 35 minutes to the city by train(werribee line). Every 20 mins you get a train. You got all kinds of shops nearby for groceries and other necessities. Got a shopping center too. Its not much popular, so people may not know anything good about it. The rent is cheaper comparatively. I would suggest its a good place to live connected to the city but yet peaceful without any hassles.
