Yes. There is a simple option in Windows XP which allows you to adjust how much space the system restore images do occupy. I recommend to let them run larger as you are learning to run windows so incase you need to remove a program you have more 'points' to go back to later.

I generally end up shutting it off because it is often a cause of returning viruses, where people clean the system, and then a few weeks later restore a point which had virus infections and the cycle starts all over again.

There are products by Nortons which allow you to make "images' of your drive and store them to external drives or dvd's etc. These images are all the files, not just the windows files. Something to think about.

Yes, but you can change the settings to your liking. The default setting is around 5% to 10% of each hard drive, i think.
