goodness and the doctors didn't find anything. I am probably wrong but this is what I think it maybe. He might be starting teething and it might be making his ears hurt or he has discovered that there is something behind his head and because a baby dosen't have the muscle control or be able to stop and just keeps grabbing without knowing how to let go, thats maybe it. My son is 16 months he is my 5th and he always grabs at his ears and people always say get him to the doctor he has an ear infection, he doesn't its something that he does. Just keep his fingernails short or put mittens on and that will stop any grabbing. try make some with a light material and elastic so his fingers can move freely inside.

My 4 month old is doing the same thing, yet there are no signs of an ear infection either. My doctor also said that it's a discovery thing. The reach up and feel them there so they tug on them, they also do it with their own hair, my daughter grabs hold of hers (right near her ears) and pulls so hard until she cries, but won't let go!!! Too funny!! Anyhow, just keep tabs on it, watch for fever within the next few weeks or any discharge from the ear other than wax. Good luck!!

You should still take him to the doctor to have his ears checked out. My nephew didn't have any signs of an ear infection except he was grabbing at his ears. The doctor said that he did actually have an ear infection and gave my sister some meds for him. I'd be worried that an untreated ear infection could cause hearing problems later in life. Take your son to the doctor just to be safe and try putting mittens on his hands to protect himself.

First you need to take him to the Dr. just to be SURE there is no ear infection. Have you checked the skin behind his ears? It maybe that the skin behind his ears is very dry and that he has learned that it feels better if he pulls on then. My son used to do the same thing, he would pull on them tell they riped and when I saw sores behind his ears I would clean them real well and put Neosporin on the cuts to keep them clean. They healed and I guess it like moistened the skin and it didn't inch any more cause he never did it again. But take him to the Dr anyways to rule out ear infection and keep his nails short.

until they rip? I am going to assume that I misunderstood that... My son was also doing that here recently. I took him to the doctor and everything was fine the doctor said he had probably just discovered his ears! However my son is 9 months old... big difference there. So I would definately take him and get him checked out!!

has he been to the dr? babies can have an infection without having a fever or other signs, so definately take him and get him looked at.
I agree with the mittens, cover up those little nails. it could be that he just found his ears and now they're like a toy to him, but I'd definately get him looked at just in case.

My son used to do that at that age and still does sometimes. I dont know if your son has any ear problems, but mine used to do it just out of anger. Have your doctor check his ears and if everything comes back ok, just trim his nails often and put mittens on his hands.

i had the same problem with my daughter at 3 months. i had her checked several times, and there was never any sign of ear infections. one doctor told me, that she had discovered her ears and thought they were fun to pull at, one doctor said she could be teething, and one doctor said she's probally getting some wax forming, and to them it feels like little bugs crawling around in thier ears....i know, sounds gross, but it was true....as long as he's not in pain, like teething or ear infection, i wouldnt worry. but, make sure when you are bathing him, that you dont get water in his ears, cause if it gets behind the wax and eardrum, it can cause an infection. and always, never let people smoke around your baby, it can also irritate thier little ears. there is probally no way to get him to stop, but put little mittens on him, or a soft rattle in each hand to distract him from grabbing his ears. take care, good luck
