I saw his question the other day, and I just wanted to know how many of you think he should just shut up and stick to acting?

Generally, yes. Actors become famous actors because of their looks and their ability to pretend to be someone else on screen. But then they get onto talk shows and People Magazine, and they realize that no matter what they talk about they can have someone's attention, and end up talking about scientific and political issues where they are in reality quite clueless.

Some actors happen to know stuff, consider Ben Stein as an example.

People in general should only announce their opinions on matters where they have some knowledge, and not just because someone gives them a soapbox.

First off, I do not like Mr. DiCaprio, however why shouldn't he have the right every other American has to his Politics? The fact that he is a star doesn't take away from his right to be "right or wrong" politically from anyone elses point of view. Should he perhaps realize that what he says carries more weight than the average american? Yes, of course he should. But, again, he has the right to do and say what he pleases, no matter what anyone else thinks.

You shouldn't confuse Leo DiCaprio the person with Leo DiCaprio the actor. One is a private citizen and the other is a public figure, he deserves to have a life like anyone else.

I would really be curious to know how many answer that he should stay out based on some idea that actors should act and politicians should debate/pontificate world issues. And of those, how many believe that Ronald Reagan was a great President.

The reality is, anyone within the public eye has the right to express their thoughts and beliefs, just as do the rest of us. Being a celebrity doesn't diminish the value of his opinion any more than it inflates it, he merely has the spotlight, and the choice of whether or not to use it.

Not just him honey... so should hte rest of Hollywood. I mean, I get that they want to bring attention to bad things that are happening all over the world... but c'mon!!! What with local and global news, newspapers, magazines, charities, etc... I think the rest of the world is pretty aware of what celebrities just discovered the past 2-3 years... I also believe this political crap they're pulling is just stunt for attention and self promotion... Take Maddona for example... Yes she adopted a needy orphan.. but the money she donated for his village can only be used to build schools that TEACH kabbalah... how selfish is that? I thought we were supposed to help others in need... not go on a Hollywood Crusade 2006... Anyway, YES Leo should stick to acting...

They vote like anybody else does, so why should they stay out of politics? They are saying what a lot of americans are saying, but dont have the eye of the people like celebs do.

Because you might not believe what they believe in doesn't mean that they should not comment on what they feel politically. I'm sure if he was stating things that you believed to be of importance you wouldn't have a problem.

Either way, don't like what celebs have to say, your vote will shut them up. If you don't vote or speak on what you feel, you are just another opinionless person.

A lot of gullible people will believe what their favorite celebrity tells them to. The celebrities love this sort of thing; it feeds their enormous egos.

To answer your question, yes, these people should shut up and mind their own business. Their opinions are no more valid than those of anyone else. I don't include in this such notable celebrity/politicians as Sonny Bono and Gopher from The Love Boat. They were the exceptions of course.

No - Mr DiCaprio's face is more recognisable than most politicians, so it makes sense to "lend" it towards a project. He has every right to have his say, and it is for a good cause. I wish more celebrities would use their media attention for good, and not just to improve their Hollywood social standing and increased publicity.

No! Let them speak their minds for this is a free country right? Plus look at Ronald Reagan and Arnold-they became successful politicians.
