What do you think? Unrealistic? Objectified? Demeaning? Reasonable? What are the images you see, and how do they affect the way you think about women? If you were head of a large multi-media conglomerate, how would you change the way women are portrayed in the media?

I get sick of how many times I'm bombarded with an overly sexualized image of a woman to try and sell a product. It's on the net, the television, billboards, magazines. You can't escape it. I don't think it's reasonable and it does have a considerable negative effect especially on teenage girls.

So many want to be just like the ultra-thin girls they see in magazines, and it's just not realistic.

I like the Dove campaign for "real beauty." That was a very admirable and progressive way of marketing. I would like to see more ads like that.

I think its all,... it depends on the circumstances, the media source etc.... Obviously your going to get one biased opinion if you turn on Oxygen, and if you flip to MTV your going to see another version...

I think pop culture as a whole portrays both sexes in a way that makes people think they have to behave and act in ways that they don't. It's disgusting... Children are getting unrealistic expectations of what to expect life to be about crammed down their throats and that isn't going to change with a media conglomorate doing anything,... going against what sociaty is begging for is only going to get you broke,...

If anything,.. you want a change,. its going to be from parents educating their children on what its all about,.. but as long as the parents themselves based there lives off of what they see on TV,... future generations are screwed :(

edit: brooke asks whats she supposed to do? well,. just be yourself,.. because when a guy like me comes along to snagt you up,. he wants something real,.. and not totally fake

I find the following media potrayal to be unrealistic, objectified, demeaning and unreasonable:

- 'Intelligent' women

- 'Independent' women

- Women get men's affection from questioning men

- Women get men's affection for being 'independent'

- Women get men's affection for being 'intelligent'

- Women are repeatedly beaten by men

- Women less violent than men

- Beautiful women as 'lacking' while 'plain' women filled with 'content'.

- Men want 'plain' women filled with 'content' than 'lacking' beautiful women

- Women don't need men

- Women superior than men

And that just some.

They affect me, they make me think that the media is filled with propaganda.

People should see real women more.

I feel that women in the media give the rest of us the idea that we aren't pretty/thin/sexy enough, but what am I supposed to do?

Women can do whatever they want these days. Why complain about it?
