Inculcating does not guarantee implementation. Good example, modeling the appropriate behaviors and establishing a trusting relationship make a difference. Good cognitive skills are picked up early but can be reinforced with increased meta-cognitive awareness. Discussion, interest, processes and humor help. Establishing firm boundaries create the trust. Parents who vacillate or frighten undermine the desire and respect needed to form a strong developmental basis of support. Fear and emotions hidden by anger produce chemicals that interfere with memory. I'm glad someone is interested in their children's success! I'd say good 'luck' but it is mostly work.
