I believe there is. I believe we have the means to continue to a higher existence after we've shed these bodily vessels. Evidence of this if you're open minded can be found within. All you have to do is look and accept what you see i.e.

- 1st you must accept you have a SOUL
- 2nd you must accept you ARE the soul
- 3rd you must accept that your soul is NOT material but spiritual

Then you will understand that this spiritual being that you are does not die but will continue to the higher existence from where it came

This material existence in which we live has a lifetime expectancy ... meaning, everything will die. Its so easy to assume and condition ourselves that "we" will die along with it.

Good Luck in your seach & regardless of opposing thoughts I believe that "we will meet again in our continued life"

Billions of years does not come into it.

You have to look at it from a human perspective.

Apparently...the first man might be 40 million years old.
Which mean he was here 40 million years before Adam and Eve.

Vegetation provides oxygen for life on the planet.
Many insects and birds promote vegetation grow.

Large animals provide nothing...except food for other large animals.

Human's purpose is to destroy the planet and everything on it.
Humans have never contributed a single thing to the planet.
They steal everything on it to turn it into money so that they can live a materialistic life.

Humans are the stupidest specie on the planet. And they are in the process of self destruction...which is a good thing for the planet.

Your Brief passage may be cosmically brief but is probably the crucible that would decide just HOW the billions of years before & after are for yr journey.

The only significance your life will have is to yourself, right now! So get out there, follow your passions and interests, and find happiness. Now! Is it any coincidence that loving yourself and making money honestly make the world a better place for everyone? This is what you are supposed to do with your life. Live, grow, succeed and achieve what you want. That's all anyone could ever hope for, but what most people ignore, thinking they're being noble by charity or volunteering. No, help yourself first, think of no one else, except to respect them as human beings with inviolate rights, and you will be helping so many more people than any hippie or fundie could ever hope.

Well, sure. I mean, technically, if one single certain person had never been born or had made some particular decision differently, it would have altered the whole way of the universe.

But this idea is rather terrifying because it puts a new and different weight on a person's every thought and action.

I believe the movie _The Butterfly Effect_ elaborates on this idea, no?

It depends on how you live your life I guess. I doubt any of us will be remembered in a billion years, but some of us will be remembered fondly by friends and family after we're gone and some of will pass on our genes and so keep something of us alive in the near future.

That's about it really.

Sure. What we do today will effect tommorrow. Something that happens today might prevent tommorrow from coming. Everything is significant, no matter how insignificant it may seem. Everything serves a purpose in the grand scheme of things!

for the very short glimpse of time we stayed, yes, i think it does, to few people may be.
No significance of course in terms of billions of years, except that you are a tiny small part of the big game called life.

Yes, it is indeed myopic as well as arrogant to assign much meaning to our life beyond ourselves!

However, the spec of dust has a lot of ego and self esteem and ambitions relative to billions of others.

Ever heard of the Butterfly Effect (not the movie)? I suggest you google it if not.

On a more personal note, if you do what you can to make the lives of those around you better, and you make every day worth living for yourself, who cares about eternity? The universe can take care of itself. Worry about yourself and your loved ones first.
