Just wondering. I'm considering law as a career, but am somewhat put off by the amount of time everyone says lawyers spend on the job.

Sure. Corporation lawyers typically work a 40 hour week. It is hard to get one of these positions. Not only do they typically not track hours, they provide full benefits, something many law firms do not include. The down side is that they are not normally getting bonuses and the potential for making huge bucks is reduced, because you work on salary, not a draw against percentages.

I make more than an associate lawyer working in the legal field but I'm no lawyer. I correct their work. There's a lot of lawyers but there's only one of me. I'm the last to go. Four days a week, three weeks vacation, paid holidays . . . consider being a paralegal and working your way into a senior position with a law firm. Works for me.

If the commitment is your problem, don't bother. You know many professional careers require more than 40 hrs a week. Pretty much all law enforcement, legal careers, engineering, teaching, people managing, construction, hell, anything worth doing. So if you are looking for a 40 hr week be a slug, work retail, they will only give you 39 hrs. never more. It's your best bet.

Law as a career first requires an education, which I guarantee you, will far exceed 60 hrs a week . Success is easily attainable in this country, but you must be willing to sacrifice of yourself to achieve it.

I think, perhaps, you should consider being a Manhattan Hot Dog Vendor. That seems more amienable to your peculiar sense of work ethics.

Try being a physician, or a corporate errand boy with an MBA trying to get ahead!

Of course you could be a homeless vet from Iraq or Vietnam and spend 146 hours a week trying not to starve and freeze to death!

Ahh, but 60 hours is what they are officially working- as in get paid. They make their own hours, and some are a bit dishonest and file more hours than is necessary to get paid more.
